The Consular Corps., and the State Government Officials of the State of Hessen including the Sri Lankan Expatriate Community attended a Memorial Service organized by the Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The Memorial Service was held to remember victims, their families and all those affected by the events on Easter Sunday.
GERMANY REMAINS A KEY TOURISM GENERATING MARKET FOR SRI LANKA
On the 6th March, 2019 the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the ITB Fair was inaugurated by Hon. John Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs. Over 75 Sri Lankan Companies participated at the ITB Fair, the world’s leading travel & tourism show.
Consul General of Sri Lanka, Mrs. Madurika Joseph Weninger visited the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the ITB Fair in Berlin. A large number of German visitors express interest in touring Sri Lanka.
Europe has traditionally been Sri Lanka’s biggest tourism source market with Germany being one of the top contributors. In 2018, the number of tourist arrivals from Germany grew 20% year-on-year to 156,888 compared to 130,227 arrivals in 2017.

The Consul General of Sri Lanka, Frankfurt am Main presented the Letter of Commission to  his excellency Volker Bouffier, Minister President of the State of Hessen at a ceremony held on the 15th of May 2019 at the Hessen State Chancellery. The Consul General during the ensuing conversation outlined the long standing friendship between the two countries and reaffirmed the commmitment to further relations in all areas of engagement during her tenure. The Minister President firstly extended the condolences for the recent Easter Sunday Attacks and condemned terrorism wholeheartedly.
